A majority of Delaware’s state senators contacted by Delaware Law Weekly have remained mum when asked whether they would support Superior Court Judge Jan R. Jurden if she is nominated as a successor to outgoing Supreme Court Justice Jack B. Jacobs. However, senators who did talk about her possible candidacy were largely supportive.

Jacobs announced earlier this month his decision to step down from the judiciary in July after 11 years on the Supreme Court. Although the Judicial Nominating Commission has not yet initiated the search for a replacement, many in the Delaware legal community said Jurden will be a likely candidate for the position. She had submitted an application to replace former Supreme Court Chief Justice Myron T. Steele and was viewed by many in the governor’s office as a strong choice for the position that eventually went to current Chief Justice Leo E. Strine Jr.
