The state Supreme Court has granted a new trial where the state’s “star” witness was given immunity for lying under oath in a case against her son.

Valerie Coleman’s son, Bruce Worthy, was brought up on charges relating to allegedly threatening Coleman and Worthy’s brother with a gun while intoxicated. In her initial statement to police, Coleman said her son had pointed a gun at her, but while testifying said the gun might have actually been a set of keys. She then refused further testimony, pleading “the Fifth.”
