Delivering the judiciary’s first budget request for the 2018 fiscal year, Chief Justice Leo E. Strine Jr. on Tuesday renewed calls for increased state funding to invest in employee pay fairness initiatives and upgrade the courts’ facilities and technology.

Strine described the pitch as a “very lean request” compared to previous years, but he also at times seemed to sound notes of frustration over a continued lack of funding for the areas, which he sees as essential for the sustainability and success of one of the nation’s most prominent court systems.
