Roughly one month after Delaware Supreme Court Justice Henry duPont Ridgely announced his intent to retire in January, two names are being discussed among the state’s legal community as possible replacements. Both candidates, former Superior Court Judge Joseph R. Slights III and Thomas P. McGonigle, the former chief of staff for Gov. Jack Markell, said they are unsure if they are going to apply for the position.
Ridgely, who has served as a Delaware judge for 30 years, said last month he will step down Jan. 31. He is the fourth justice to depart from the Supreme Court over the past year. In typical Delaware fashion, the state’s legal community began buzzing about his potential successor.
