Only one member of the Delaware General Assembly’s Senate Executive Committee said he intends to ask Superior Court Judge Jan R. Jurden about her controversial decision in the Richards case during her confirmation hearing to become president judge of the court she now serves. Two other committee members said they will not question Jurden about her decision to order probation for a child molester, while a third senator said he is unsure if he will raise the issue.
Delaware Law Weekly reached out to the six members of the executive committee, the legislative group tasked with holding confirmation hearings for judicial appointments. State Sen. F. Gary Simpson, R-Milford, said he will ask Jurden about the controversial sentencing, but Sens. Patricia M. Blevins, D-Elsmere, and David B. McBride, D-Hawk’s Nest, claimed they will not broach the issue. Sen. Gregory F. Lavelle, R-Sharpley, said he was unsure if he would ask specific questions about the decision, but encouraged Jurden to address the case.
