Delaware Supreme Court Chief Justice-designate Leo E. Strine Jr. expressed cautious concern about opening Family Court hearings to the public during remarks Monday before the Joint Finance Committee. Strine said that he was “really uncomfortable” about a family’s personal issues being displayed for public consumption.

“Our tradition in Chancery Court is to respect the privacy of our litigants,” Strine told the JFC, comparing the guardianship cases that fall into the Chancery Court’s jurisdiction to the types of litigation that are overseen by the Family Court. He said that in such cases the Chancery Court uses pseudonyms to protect identities.
